TV Board Vergleich: Welches Lowboard passt wirklich zu dir?

TV unit comparison: which lowboard is right for you?

There's that one minute when a TV unit either "just fits" – or gets on your nerves. You sit down, the film starts, and suddenly you notice: cables are visible, the console is half in the way, the soundbar has no space. Or the television somehow looks too bulky on the low sideboard.

That's exactly why a TV unit comparison is worth it before you buy. Not as a dry collection of products, but as an honest check: which dimensions suit your room? Do you need a wall-mounted TV unit or would you rather have a TV bench? And how important are load capacity, cable management and an easy-care surface when the living room really gets used?

In this guide, TV units are examined more closely and popular models are compared with each other – from system classics to configurable solutions and the "Made in Germany" upgrade.

Buying a TV unit: what you should check before you buy

Before it comes to colours and fronts, three things count: TV size, tech and how the room feels.

TV cabinet or low sideboard: what really needs to go in it?

Sounds simple, but is often underestimated. Ask yourself briefly:

  • Is it just the TV standing there? Or also a soundbar, console, receiver and router?

  • Should everything disappear behind flaps, or can it be left out in the open?

  • Are there things you need quickly to hand (controllers, remote controls)?

If you want to hide your tech, a closed TV low sideboard usually feels calmer. If you constantly need to get to your devices, a fully closed model becomes impractical at some point.

Low sideboard dimensions: the most important reality check

With a TV unit, dimensions are not a formality – they decide the look of the room.

  • Width: A low sideboard looks calmer when it is slightly wider than your television.

  • Depth: Allow space for plugs. Otherwise the TV unit ends up standing 5 cm away from the wall.

  • Height: Lower looks more modern. At the same time, a soundbar has to fit without covering the screen.

Our TV unit 'Stage' measures 160 cm wide, 42 cm deep and 36 cm high. That is an ideal size for a clean TV area that is not too massive.

Interior tip: If the TV "only just" fits on a unit, it quickly looks as if the piece of furniture was chosen too small. If, on the other hand, the unit is noticeably wider, the whole corner immediately looks planned and generous – even without extra decoration.

Wall-mounted TV unit or TV bench: which version suits you?

Wall-mounted TV unit: the look for more space

A floating TV unit makes the corner lighter. More floor stays visible, hoovering is relaxed and the living room looks tidier.

Important here:

  1. The wall has to be suitable for mounting.

  2. The load capacity has to be clear (specifically for wall mounting, not just when standing).

  3. Cables should be routed so that they are not visible under the unit.

'Stage' can be used wall-mounted or freestanding. We supply the wall bracket with it. With us, the load capacity of up to 50 kg applies to both versions.

TV bench: the uncomplicated solution

A TV bench is the "just put it down" option. That's ideal if you don't want to drill, your tenancy agreement makes wall mounting difficult or you want to stay flexible with your furnishing.

Cable management: the difference between a living room and a tech corner

A TV unit can look high-quality – and still seem restless if cables are visible. A well-thought-out setup has an opening at the top or back for the cables from the TV, plus additional openings in the back panel for the console and receiver. 'Stage' has a circular cable opening at the top and additional openings in the back panel. In everyday life, that makes the visual difference.

The big TV unit comparison: IKEA, JYSK, MYCS & mokebo

How does 'Stage' hold up against the classics and other suppliers? We have summarised the most important facts for you.

Name Country of manufacture Price incl. delivery Features Delivery time
mokebo 'Stage' Germany (NRW) €199.99 Push-to-open, 50 kg load capacity, wall-mounted/freestanding 1-3 working days
IKEA BESTÅ not specified approx. €282.00 Modular system, many fronts to choose from 4-10 working days
JYSK 'Limfjorden' not specified approx. 205,099 € 2 drawers, 1 door, freestanding only 8-10 working days
MYCS TV unit Europe from approx. €500 Individually configurable, premium material 6-10 weeks

The entry-level models: IKEA & JYSK

IKEA BESTÅ is a classic for everyone looking for maximum modularity. It offers many fronts, but home delivery drives up the product price. With 'Limfjorden', JYSK offers a very inexpensive, freestanding-only solution. If you are looking for a simple TV unit in white, you will find a solid basis here, but you have to do without the floating design.

The individual solution: MYCS

MYCS is the right choice if you want to plan to the centimetre and love individuality. The quality is high, but delivery times are significantly longer and the price is in the upper segment.

The charming upgrade: mokebo 'Stage'

mokebo produces 'Stage' directly in NRW. That saves CO2 through short distances and guarantees you a quality that survives everyday family life. With the handleless design and the option of using it as a floating low sideboard, you bring modern design into your home without the long delivery times. Thanks to the smart rail system, wall mounting can also be done safely on your own: screw the rail to the wall, hang the unit on it, done. A matching sideboard and tall cabinet are also available and can be combined into a modern wall unit.

Conclusion: which low sideboard wins?

If you need full flexibility in width and can collect your delivery by car via Click & Collect, BESTÅ is a good choice. If you are looking for a one-off piece and have a higher budget, it is worth taking a look at brands like MYCS and tylko.

If you value Made in Germany, easy wall mounting and fast, free delivery, 'Stage' from mokebo is your TV unit model. It is the functional highlight for everyone looking for a calm look and real load capacity in the living room.
